GRADES 11 AND 12
The culminating achievement of students graduating from Ambassador International Academy, the IB Diploma Programme (DP) represents more than a proven pathway to some of the finest universities and careers; it’s the pathway to students becoming lifelong learners and caring, well-rounded human beings making a difference in the world.
Building on the attitudes, concepts, knowledge, skills and action developed in the Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes and supported with the experience of either the final two years of MYP or of IGCSE, the Diploma Program will provide students in Grades 11 and 12 with a depth and breadth of courses that enable them to hit the ground running when they reach university.
six academic subjects
In the DP, students take six subjects from the groups outlined below, three at standard level and three at higher level: arts, language and literature, computer science, language acquisition, mathematics, design, experimental sciences, individuals and societies.
These six academic subjects are centred around three core principles.
Theory of Knowledge
Through this mandatory course, students hone their critical thinking skills further and develop as learners and human beings. The course encourages students to reflect on the nature of knowledge and how we claim to know what we know.
The extended essay is a 4000 word, university level essay, for which students select and investigate a topic of special interest to them (that is related to one of their six DP subjects). In this year-long project, students learn to self-manage their work as well as research, analyse and synthesise knowledge at an advanced level.
(CAS) Creativity, Action and Service
Students have a curricular requirement to give back regularly to the community throughout the two year IB Diploma Programme and do so representing being creative, being active and performing a service.
Theory of Knowledge
No prior language experience is needed before students join the IBDP. Language options exist for students of all levels, from beginner to bilingual students. The IBDP is awarded at the end of the second year based on students’ performance on written external examinations.
The IBDP prepares students for effective participation in a rapidly evolving and increasingly global society.
Do universities recognise the IB diploma?
* Ambassador International Academy is a candidate school for the PYP. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy-a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.
* Ambassador International Academy is a proposed Cambridge IGCSE Curriculum School.
