GRADES 9 AND 10

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is academically rigorous and internationally used. IGCSEs will prepare students for either the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or A Levels which Ambassador International Academy will offer in Grades 11 and 12.

Ambassador International Academy will offer its students a number of subjects to choose from and a variety of routes for students with a diverse range of abilities. There will be ten subjects available and students can select a variety of combinations. Subjects will be aligned to: Language and Literature (English), Individuals and Societies (History, Geography, Business Studies), Arts (Music and Visual), Design, Physical and Health Education, Sciences, Mathematics, Language Acquisition (foreign languages). All of these are developed in Grades 6, 7 and 8 in the MYP Programme and previous to that the PYP programme, so the transition will be smooth for all.

The MYP provides a framework of academic challenge and life skills appropriate to this stage of adolescence. The MYP focuses on the student’s intellectual and social development along with teaching an understanding of the student’s own history and global awareness in each subject area.

Cambridge IGCSE develops learner knowledge, understanding and skills in:

  • Subject content;
  • Applying knowledge and understanding to new as well as unfamiliar situations;
  • Intellectual enquiry;
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to change;
  • Working and communicating in English;
  • Influencing outcomes;
  • Cultural awareness.

Core and Extended Curriculum

To take into account differing abilities, there is a choice between Core and Extended curriculum papers in some subjects.

The Core curriculum is within the ability range of a large majority of students. It provides a full overview of the subject and is targeted at students expected to achieve grades C to G.

The Extended curriculum has been designed for the more academically able. It is targeted at those expected to achieve grades A* to E.

Preparation for the IB Diploma or A Levels

IGCSE provides students with rigorous preparation for the next stage of their education, with detailed, in-depth syllabi and clearly structured courses.

Experience of sitting external exams

IGCSE assessment takes place at the end of the course and can include written, oral, coursework and practical assessment. This broadens opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning, particularly when their first language is not English.

World-Wide Recognition

One of the biggest benefits the IGCSE offers is acceptance and recognition from the best of universities, organisations, governments and employers around the world for whom the qualification is a sign of competence and excellence. IGCSE ensures that its learners have 21st Century skills such as critical and creative thinking and problem solving abilities, while also ensuring they master the concepts and knowledge across subject group in a range of real-life contexts. Our students will have the added bonus of developing these skills before starting the IGCSE courses with the experience of the PYP and MYP learner profile.
