GRADES 6, 7 AND 8

Ambassador International Academy’s Middle School curriculum delivers the first three years of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) and lays the groundwork for student success in their final two years of the middle school when they  transition to the Cambridge IGCSE.

In Grades 6 to 8, students develop an understanding of their own approaches to learning, independence in the subject-specific objectives and assessment practices, and an appreciation of service and action. These experiences deepen their understanding of the concepts embedded in the program and what it means to be an internationally minded member of our global community.

The MYP provides a framework of academic challenge and life skills appropriate to this stage of adolescence. The MYP focuses on the student’s intellectual and social development along with teaching an understanding of the student’s own history and global awareness in each subject area.

The MYP aims to develop students who are:

  • Active learners;
  • Internationally minded;
  • Able to empathize with others;
  • Have the intellect and skills to pursue lives of purpose and meaning.

There are eight core disciplines in the MYP: Language and Literature, Individuals and Societies (Social Studies), Arts (Music and Visual), Design, Physical and Health Education, Sciences, Mathematics, Language Acquisition. This student-centered programme both embraces and transcends traditional school subjects by helping students see the connections between the academic disciplines.

The MYP:

  • promotes responsible global citizenship, while preparing students for their future;
  • provides inter-cultural awareness for all members of the school community;
  • focuses on rigorous academics;
  • facilitates communication for the development of interdisciplinary, thematic instruction so students connect what they learn;
  • calls for students to develop higher level thinking skills and important life skills;
  • provides assessment criteria;
  • embeds community service throughout the curriculum.

From their PYP and MYP experiences Ambassador students will develop the following ten attributes valued by IB World Schools and commonly known as the learner profile. These attributes lead students to become internationally minded individuals.
